Can you learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at home?
This has been something asked a lot during the Covid-19 pandemic. The question of Can you learn BJJ at home is one that has had instructors everywhere scratching their heads.
The short answer is yes! The meta of Jiu Jitsu is just movement. I like to tell my students that to get better at Jiu Jitsu they need to become better at moving. By this, I mean being in control of their own bodies. I always find that people who have done some kind of movement-based activities before, pick up the micro details of BJJ much more easily. (Gymnasts, Break Dancers and Crossfitters seem to get Jiu Jitsu VERY EASILY)
Over the course of lockdowns I have been sharing my thoughts and theories on Jiu-Jitsu and learning from home and have made a few videos on the subject. I put together a video of the fundamental movements of BJJ so that they can be practiced on your living room floor.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a good workout?
I hope that when you have a go at the movements above you will find that BJJ is an amazing workout that can be done even at home. Although its difficult to really learn the micro details, by yourself at home. You absolutely can master the overall movements AND get a really good workout at the same time.
